Celtic White Horse and Sun Wide Silver Ring To fit Size Q 1/2 or 8 1/4
SOLD
A stunning Celtic white horse ring, entirely handmade by me in my Oxfordshire studio. On one side prances the stylised horse and on the other shines a Celtic sun. Each design has been meticulously hand cut from thick sterling silver and soldered securely to the wide silver band. The ring has been oxidised and waxed with a microcrystalline wax to bring out the raised details and help protect the oxidised surface. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that can continue to lighten with wear. Your ring will come gift boxed.
This ring carries a full set of UK hallmarks and my maker's mark as issued by Goldsmith's of London - your guarantee of quality and silver purity.
This ring is inspired by the Uffington White Horse - Uffington is the oldest of all the white horses and was created in the Bronze Age. It's believed that the horse could have been cut by worshippers of the sun god Belinos or Belenus, who was associated with horses. He was sometimes depicted on horseback, and Bronze and Iron Age sun chariots were shown as being drawn by horses. This may be why the horse was cut into the chalk on the shallower slope at the top of the hill so that he could be seen from above by the god himself.
