Opal Raven
​Silver with Honduran Matrix Opal and Black Opal



An absolutely stunning one-of-a-kind raven... 
This necklace is a real statement piece - the raven has been entirely handmade and meticulously hand cut from thick sterling silver which I have textured to give a lovely matt finish. 
His 'body' holds an amazing Honduran Matrix Opal - a truly stunning stone which glistens with speckles of blue and green in the light.
He is also decorated with hand cut layers of textured silver, hand formed balls and swirls and two lovely black opals.
The silver has been oxidised and then the details highlighted for contrast. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that can lighten with wear.
The sterling silver chain has also been oxidised and highlighted, and is finished with a handmade clasp. 
The silver has then been waxed with a microcrystalline wax to help protect the oxidised surface. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that can lighten with wear.
As with all of my pieces, each and every jump ring is handmade and soldered closed to prevent any piece of the pendant coming apart or getting lost.
Comes gift boxed.

The Honduran black opal is a unique variety of black matrix opal. The gemstones are beautifully speckled and appear almost galactic in nature.
​They are of volcanic origin forming in basalt belts which gives them their natural black body colour.
The colours and patterns of each stone are never exactly alike which makes each stone totally unique.
