OOAK Silver and Chrome Diopside Seahorse BroochSOLDThis one-of-a-kind, unique seahorse brooch has been hand forged from layers of sterling silver.
His body has been created using the traditional silversmithing technique of reticulation which involves heating and cooling the silver several times. This creates an underwater surface texture really suited to a seahorse design. I have also hand pierced several starfish motifs to echo the sea theme. His eye is a gorgeous chrome diopside gemstone which is a rich deep 'seaweed' green. The silver has then been oxidised and burnished to highlight the texture, and given a coat of microcrystalline wax to help protect the oxidised surface. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that can lighten with wear. Because I wanted the whole piece to be constructed from silver, I chose to use a solid silver brooch pin, rather than a more common base metal one. Silver isn't as hard as base metal so please note that care needs to be taken when pushing the pin through thicker material. This is a substantial piece. Comes gift boxed.
