​Recycled Silver and Recycled 9 carat Gold Hedgehog Pendant

Can't remember the last time I saw a real hedgehog in my garden, so I made a reminder to myself of just how adorable they are....
This pendant is made from my own recycled silver and recycled 9 carat gold. Starting with scrap materials, I melt the metals down in a crucible, pour them into ingot molds and then labouriously roll them until they are a useable and uniform thickness. To add some great 'hedgehoggy' texture, I hammered some amazing beach sand, which had come all the way from the sunshine coast in Australia, onto the surface and then removed the grains.
This little fella is meticulously hand cut from this fantastic recycled sterling silver. His adorable heart has a smooth polished surface and is handcut from my recycled 9 carat gold. This is solid gold - not gold plated.
With his gold heart and connection to the sunshine coast, he will be spreading love and sunshine whever he goes.
He hangs from an 18" lightweight sterling silver trace chain and all silver has been oxidised, highlighted and waxed.
Oxidisation is a chemical surface treatment much like the natural oxidisation silver undergoes with time. Oxidisation will continue to lighten with wear. I
give all oxidised pieces a layer of microcrystalline wax to help protect the surface.
As with every piece I make, all jump rings are soldered closed for security.
