'Catcher of Dreams' Turquoise and sterling silver feather pendant necklace
This unique turquoise and silver feather pendant is inspired by Native American dream catchers. Entirely handmade to my original design, it is constructed from thick sterling silver and set with a 10 mm genuine turquoise gemstone. The focal element is constructed from a silver base plate with a raised edge and four handmade silver drops in the recess. The feather has been hand cut from layers of sterling silver and has a gliding raven on the reverse. The silver has been oxidised, highlighted and waxed with a microcrystaline wax to help protect the oxidised surface. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that will lighten with wear. The sterling silver chain is 20" long and has been finished with one of my handmade silver clasps. As with all of my pieces, each and every jump ring is handmade and soldered closed to prevent any piece of the pendant coming apart or getting lost. This is a weighty statement piece. The dream catcher originated with the Ojibwe people and Lakota tribe. There are several legends attributed to it's symbolism, but a common belief is that they ensnare bad spirits and allow good dreams to influence the sleeper. Each element of the dream catcher carries significance, from the circular shape representing the circle of life, the beads representing the good dreams and the feathers that would provide a soft ladder for the good dream to glide down and gently enter into the dreamer’s mind.
